Weeds are essentially plants or grasses that you don't want growing in your garden or lawn. They can be an indicator of other issues that may require addressing, such as poor nutrition, insufficient mulch (or ground cover species) or even a lawn that has been cut too short, providing opportunity for other grasses or weeds to develop. Common weeds and invasive grasses seen in lawns in the Bellbowrie area include Clover, Bindi, Cudweed, Oxalis, Poa (Winter grass), Sedge (Nutgrass and Mullumbimby Couch) and Crab Grass, among others. Treatment depends on the type of weed, the type of grass you wish to retain in your lawn, and the level of the invasion. Selective herbicides are very effective for their targeted weed species, but must be applied in a safe manner and correct dosage levels, sometimes with multiple treatments being necessary. Where herbicides are undesirable, there are options to use other treatments, such as vinegar, salt, burning or even steaming! In some cases, the old-fashioned approach of removal by hand/tools is most appropriate. We can recommend a treatment and work with you where preference for a specific approach is preferred.
